MY FIRST SAFE ORDERED MILKSHAKE! Delicious Strawberry Milkshake. Literally like drinking strawberry ice cream. The burgers here are huge and to die for. My brother has tree nut allergies and got grilled cheese. I'm allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, lentils, legumes, apple, and cherry. We both opted for the Wheat Bun.

Notes:

  • Wheat Bun contains sesame

  • BBQ Sauce and Serrano Sauce contain apple cider vinegar

  • Organic Brioche Bun contain wheat, *Manufactured in a facility that processes eggs, milk, wheat, soy, and tree nuts

Tips:

  • Call ahead and notify staff of your allergies when you order.

  • Be careful of sauces, specifically if you have fruit or natural flavoring allergy concerns like me.

  • Do not get Organic Brioche Bun if concerned about cross contamination with tree nuts!

  • Check out the allergen and nutrition info online.

Interview with Jessie Kileen (Co-founder):

Grassburger was started because of the co-founders' children's food allergies.  In an email, the co-founder Jessie Kileen shared that “Much of our ingredient deck and the way things can be deconstructed are due to our experiences with trying to eat out with them.  Also, we are nut-free and have dedicated gf fryers as a result. ”

How do you take an allergen order different from a regular order?

We have a button for celiac, gluten-free and a space to add notes about other allergies that goes right to the kitchen screen.

What foods on the menu are safe for people allergic to milk, egg, wheat, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, and sesame seeds (top 9 allergens)?

I'm attaching our allergen sheet for reference (in the "Menu" section above).  This is on the verge of being updated as we eliminated Earth Balance Margarine, added coleslaw and replaced our cookies with GF Good Hope brand.

What steps do you take to accommodate people with food allergies? Do you have a food allergy policy in place?

We do have a food allergy policy in place; it's part of our employee training.

How do you control the risk of cross contact in the kitchen?

We have designated areas for certain things on the griddle.  The hardest thing is the wheat bun - while many celiacs do well with us, we are not a dedicated gf kitchen.  This is where things get tricky.  It's easier being nut-free, but many manufacturers have called out using shared processing equipment, so we must have that called out on our allergen sheet so people are aware.

What do you advise to those with food allergies when they visit other than self identification? Is there anything specific?

We have an allergen, ingredient deck and nutrition deck available on our website.  I have a few things called out on the menu itself, but that is the more in-depth place to look.

Are your staff trained and what training do they go through in regards to food allergies?

They go through specific allergen training.  For some of them, it is a brand new concept.
